Effortless Holiday Hair

Kourtney Kardashian’s slick high bun - celebrity hair and hairstyles1219-lala-divas-updo-front_bd.jpg

New Year's Eve is right around the corner and most women are on the hunt for their holiday hair.  This season buns have been very popular in all shapes and sizes. If you're looking for a sassy do that does not require much fuss, try a bun. Kourtney Kardashian has been spotted sporting this look quite often. If you're looking to put a spin on the traditional bun try adding a braid or twist like La La Anthony did for VH1's Divas.

Curly Girls

Want to get Beyonce and Taylor Swift's curls?
Check out these tips:

Lightly mist hair with a styling spray (I recommend Sebastian Shaper), wrap sections of   hair around curling wand.  YES, IT'S THAT EASY!

For Taylor's look : little or no styling is required after hair is curled.

To achieve Beyonce's wave: after curls have cooled, brush hair with a paddle brush to soften the look.

Tip: You don't have to spend a ton on an expensive wand. Try the Remington Pearl Curling Wand for only $24.99 or use your very curling iron at home.

Winter Hair Care Tips

It's that time of year that most women dread. The dry and cold winter can be very damaging to your hair. Hair easily becomes dry during this time of year from the dry indoor heating and the dry cold weather outside. Proper preventative steps need to be taken during this seasons to ensure that your hair does not get damaged.

  • If wearing a wool coat be sure to line your collar with a silk or satin scarf to minimize friction that often causes breakage.

  • Be sure to use moisturizing shampoos and conditioners to help replenish the hair. Sulfate free shampoos are ideal for this because they are less harsh and do not strip the hair like traditional shampoos.

  • Adding a hot oil treatment to your routine during this season can also be beneficial in helping to keep hair moisturized.

  • If you're not already using one be sure to add a leave in conditioner to your routine but select one that won't weigh your hair down or leave a build up behind. One of my personal favorites is It's a 10 Leave -In Conditioner.

Fancy Word Of The Day....Ombre!

JessicaBielSarahJessicaParkerDrewBarrymore

There is a new color craze taking over..... Ombre!

Ombre is both a French and Italian word meaning 'shaded or shadow'. This highlighting technique is used to give the appearance of 'grown out' highlights and sunkissed ends. The technique is best used on medium to long length hair. Depending on preference touch ups are needed only 2-3 times per year.

You may want to consider Ombre highlights if you:

1. prefer low-maintenance, natural looking highlights (ombre highlights grow out beautifully and are virtually maintenance free).

2. are bored with solid, dark hair and want a boost of color without a total commitment to highlights.

3. have always wanted to be blonde but worried the traditional all-over blonde highlights would make you look washed out.

Ok ladies one of the key things when deciding to get color is visiting a reputable stylist who specializes in color. Take some examples of the look that you are going for like the pictures above.

Beyonce Goes Blonder

Beyonce is sporting noticeably lighter locks these days. If you're looking to lighten up this season be sure to do so within reason. Be sure to consult with your stylist but if you have naturally dark hair lightening up only two to three levels would be my recommendation. Take a page out of Beyonce's book and avoid overstyling and let the color speak for itself.

Who Says Blondes Have More Fun?

First it was the Bob and then it was the Mohawk, so when Rihanna debuted her Red Hot Hue we should have known that this would be one of the hair trends for Spring /Summer 2011. For those of you not looking to go as bold as Rihanna, there are some more subtle options out there. The most fashionable shades are warm reds and copper reds, the colors we tend to see from the natural red heads, there are also some options with cooler tones. Be sure to consult your stylist to find out what hue suits you best, but overall be daring and GO FOR IT!

Kate Hudson Sporting Loose Waves At The MET Gala

Glittering: Pregnant actresses Jessica Alba and Kate Hudson looked radiant in their full-length gold gowns at the Costume Institute Gala in New York tonight

Kate Hudson looked radiant as she attended the 2011 Costume Designer’s MET Gala in New York City last night (May 2).  She pulled off these loose tousled waves like only Kate Hudson could, one word, "effortlessly".  Get this look by curling sections of hair around the barrel of a curling iron and finger styling, use a shaping spray such as Sebastian Shaper (my fave) for a light but firm hold.

Want A Quick Way To Switch Up Your Look?

Trying to change your look without too much of a commitment? Try a few clip-in extensions, they are a great way to add length and volume without the fuss. These clip-ins were customed made for my client and we cut a bang for a more dramatic effect.

Woven Locks Are Hot for Spring 2011

Prom season is officially here and I am hoping to see tons of twists on the ponytail just like on the runways.  Ladies if you want to punch up that pony without it being too over done add a braid to the front like this look that was spotted at the Lacoste show. I LOVE THIS LOOK! To pull this off be sure to add the deep side part and keep everything else simple.

Are HotHeads Hair Extensions Really Hot?

hotheads-hair-extensions-taped-wefts

HotHeads Hair Extensions are designed to enhance the look of your natural hair without causing harm or damage. While HotHeads may be a quick and less expensive option for extensions, they are only great on the right type of hair (fine hair). These extensions require much more maintenance than the more traditional methods, so while the cost may appear to be less up front you are sure to spend more money in the long run. I recommend this method only if you hair very fine but long hair, otherwise you are sure to get a better result with the more traditional methods.

Victoria Beckham Looking Like Royalty While Staying On-Trend

Victoria Beckham attended the royal wedding like the true fashionista that she is.  The fashion designer wore her long brunette hair in an on-trend ponytail, worn slicked back away from her head. Not to be out done was hubby David who sported a perfectly coiffed 1940's style quiff.  I love Victoria's hair, it's simple but very sleek. To get this look try using a pomade like Aveda's Control Paste for your edges and a shine serum ( I love Moroccan Oil) for a wonderfully polished look..
